The Concord Speech Pathology department offers a number of different outpatient services for those who live, work or study within our local government area. Tertiary services are offered for specialist clinics such as Burns, VFSS and Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing.

Outpatient Services include
- Stroke Outreach Service:
This is a home-based rehabilitation team for stroke survivors and their carers in the Sydney Local Health District. The team has a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and a Speech Pathologist who are specifically trained to provide goal-oriented stroke rehabilitation. The service aims to provide a multidisciplinary team approach with regular case conferences and meetings with rehabilitation physicians to establish care plans. The aim is to provide rehabilitation as long as there are realistic therapy goals. Referrals are accepted for all suburbs in the Sydney Local Health District catchment (including RPA, Concord, Canterbury and Balmain).
- Day Hospital Service:
This is an outpatient service available for patients within the Concord catchment area. Outpatients are required to attend the Concord day hospital for assessment and therapy.
- Voice outpatients:
Outpatient voice referrals are accepted from community health professionals such as your local GP. Patients are required to have an ENT assessment prior to voice therapy which can be arranged through the Voice and Swallow clinic. Out of area patients will be referred to their local service.
- Videofluroscopic Swallow Study:
A videofluroscopic swallow study (VFSS) is an objective and instrumental assessment for swallowing. The patient is required to eat and drink different textures whilst being video x-rayed to assess their mechanics of swallowing. It is a multidisciplinary clinic involving a speech pathologist, radiologist and radiographer. A GP or Specialist referral is required for this procedure and patients are required to have a managing Speech Pathologist in the community for ongoing follow-up.
- Voice and Swallow Clinic:
This clinic specialises in the evaluation and management of voice and swallowing disorders through use of Nasendoscopy or Fibreoptic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES). It is a multidisciplinary clinic involving a Speech Pathologist an Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist and nursing staff. A referral from a GP, Specialist or Speech Pathologist is required.
- Burns outpatients:
Patients requiring follow up care post discharge from the Burns unit may be seen as an outpatient by the Specialist Burns Speech Pathologist. Non-admitted patients may also be referred for Speech Pathology assessment and treatment at the discretion of the managing burns surgeon, nursing or other multidisciplinary staff involved with patient care.
- Parkinson’s Disease Clinic
This is a multidisciplinary clinic specialising in the assessment and management of Parkinson’s Disease and Parkinson Plus syndromes. The team consist of neurologists, a clinical nurse specialist and allied health. Referrals are accepted from GPs, medical specialists and health professionals
- Home Based Therapy
Patients over 18 who reside in the Sydney Local Health District presenting with speech/ language or swallowing problems who are unable to attend the Speech Pathology outpatient services due to transport and/or mobility restrictions requiring home visits and who are not already accessing Speech Pathology services
